Book Discussion: The Undocumented Americans

Book Discussion: The Undocumented Americans

Join us at
Friday, July 15, 2022
Hours: TBD

Chosen by our upcoming artist in resident, Nancy Rivera, this book is written by one of the first undocumented immigrants to graduate from Harvard. In it she revels the hidden lives of her fellow undocumented Americans in this deeply personal and groundbreaking portrait of a nation.

Book Discussion Part 1:
July 15
12pm – 1pm

Join us on your Friday lunch hour to discuss chapters 1 – 3. RSVP below for a link to the call. We’re looking forward to having you join us!

Book Discussion Part 2:
July 28
6pm

This will be an in-person discussion led by Nancy Rivera at the Kimball Art Center, where we will cover the rest of the book. RSVP below. P.s. It’s okay if you don’t finish the entire book, it’s simply a jumping off point for discussion.

About Nancy Rivera:

Nancy Rivera is a visual artist, curator, and arts administrator based in Salt Lake City, Utah. As an artist, she works primarily in the fields of photography, video, sculpture, and installation. Her practice is influenced by her dual cultural identity and its effects, such as code-switching, cultural assimilation, and displacement. Her most recent work reflects on her experience as first-generation Mexican American through her own history of migration. She has exhibited nationally in a variety of traditional and non-traditional venues and her work is part of private and public collections. From 2018–2021, she served as board member and vice-chair of the Salt Lake City Art Design Board. She was a 2021 National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) Leadership Institute Fellow and currently oversees the Visual Arts Program at the Utah Division of Arts & Museums.
