Carol Avery
Carol Avery, BFA from the University of Utah, has been a certified PMC (Precious Metal Clay) instructor since 2001. She grew up in Salt Lake under the tutelage of her mother, who taught various crafts to visually-impaired people. Carol’s college studies focused on weaving and fiber arts, though she also dabbled in small metals and ceramics as well. She loves working with silver clay because it is very malleable and gives immediate results, like earthen clay. Yet it becomes hardened, fine metal after spending a couple of hours in a kiln – jewelry making is a breeze.
The job that pays the rent, however, is as Health Educator with Salt Lake County Health Department, Injury Prevention Program. There she works with all ages, from birth to elders as a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician and leading fall prevention classes. She is married to Lloyd, has a daughter and several step-children (all with families of their own) and shares a house with a feisty cat named Beouf.
