All Sketches Wish to Be Real
Alexandra Fuller, Antra Sinha, Elpitha TsoutsounakisAbout
"And yet I miss the alternatives. / All sketches wish to be real."Featuring new work by Alexandra Fuller, Antra Sinha, and Elpitha Tsoutsounakis, the exhibition draws inspiration from a stanza in Tomas Tranströmer’s poem, The Blue House, which speaks to the alternate lives and futures that remain just out of reach:
It is always so early in here, it is before the crossroads,
before the irrevocable choices.
I am grateful for this life!
And yet I miss the alternatives.
All sketches wish to be real.
Fuller’s cyanotypes of raptors—keystone species and ancestral messengers—invite viewers into a quietly altered reality: one where reciprocity with the nonhuman world is not a loss or a dream, but a vivid presence. These images are not documents of what has been, but sketches of what could be. Similarly, works by Sinha and Tsoutsounakis draw viewers into their own liminal, speculative worlds.
In that spirit, All Sketches Wish to Be Real proposes that imagination is not escapism, but agency, that scenarios dreamed into being can exert their own gravitational pull. To envision a more generous future is to begin to call it into form. These works are not fantasies, but invitations, sketches with a pulse, asking to be made real.
