In our newest exhibition, Wonderland and Eat Me, Drink Me, Kimball Art Center presents contemporary sculptural and installation-based work by David Altmejd, Uta Bekaia, Yasue Maetake, Catalina Ouyang and Jennifer Angus.
Each artist explores transformation and regeneration through a reimagining of the human and animal form. Using a variety of different materials these artists create hybrid sculptures. These sculptures and installations include insects, wildlife and recycled materials. Looking at this artwork inspires us to be curious and ask questions about our relationship with the natural world.
Together, we will explore the work of five artists currently being shown at the Kimball Art Center and discuss themes connected to the exhibition. Expect conversations about the relationship between humans and nature and personal experiences. Our observations and dialogue will highlight problem solving skills and engineering in art. Lastly, we will talk about different materials used to make sculptures and create our own sculptures based on the artist's process and ideas.
