KIMBALL ART CENTER TO PRESENT SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL INSPIRED EXHIBIT CURATED BY MORGAN SPURLOCK

Exhibit Will Bring to Utah a Collection of Artists Who Embody the Innovative, Raw, Edgy, Provocative Spirit of the 33-Year Old Festival
PARK CITY, UT – Kimball Art Center announced today its new exhibition celebrating diverse and innovative artists titled Thirty-Three: Celebrating 33 Years of the Independent Spirit & Sundance Film Festival. The exhibition set to open January 19, 2017, is curated by award-winning director and Sundance Institute alum, Morgan Spurlock, with additional co-curation by Jensen Karp & Katherine Sutton of Gallery1988 in Los Angeles, California. Thirty-Three will showcase 33 emerging and established artists that are at the forefront of contemporary and visual art and run the gamut of pop art style and aesthetic.
“Morgan Spurlock is a visionary filmmaker with a demonstrated talent for curating emerging and established artists to bring a fresh perspective to the art scene,” said Robin Marrouche, Executive Director of the Kimball Art Center. “Together with Gallery1988 of Los Angeles, he has co-curated a show for Kimball Art Center that is both playful and provocative. This Thirty-Three exhibition pays homage to over three decades of creativity generated by Sundance Film Festival and is the perfect addition for art enthusiasts to enjoy during the Festival. The Kimball Art Center is thrilled to be a part of such an innovative collaboration.”

ABOUT MORGAN SPURLOCK
Morgan Spurlock is an award-winning and Academy Award-nominated writer, director and producer and president and founder of full-service New York-based production studio, Warrior Poets. His first film, Super Size Me, premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, winning Best Directing honors. The film went on to win the inaugural Writers Guild of America Best Documentary Screenplay award as well as garner an Academy Award nomination for Best Feature Documentary.
Since then he has directed, produced and distributed multiple film, television and digital projects, including the critically acclaimed CNN television series Morgan Spurlock Inside Man, Showtime’s 7 Deadly Sins, the FX series 30 Days and films such as Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?, Confessions of a Superhero, Czech Dream, Chalk and The Future of Food to name a few. Spurlock also serves as Executive Producer of the upcoming documentaries The Eagle Huntress, The Pistol Shrimps and Vlogumentary, and is co-writing, directing and producing the untitled film about Hollywood Superagent Sue Mengers based on Brian Kellow’s bestselling biography, Can I Go Now: The Life of Sue Mengers, Hollywood’s Superagent.

Opened in 2004 by California natives Katie Sutton and Jensen Karp, Gallery1988 has become the go-to, and was the first-ever, destination for pop culture art and emerging artists.
