Young Filmmakers: Create Your Own Movie!

February 14, 2025 by

In our Young Filmmakers: Create Your Own Movie! camp, kids will create their own films using iPads and laptops! Over four exciting days, they’ll brainstorm, shoot, and edit their movies while learning storytelling, camera techniques, and editing skills. The camp ends with a special screening of their films!

The camp will be led by Parker Gehring, a director, writer, producer, and editor of the independently produced film Lucy and Whitney. Parker, who holds a BA in Media Arts from Brigham Young University , has a strong background in film theory, leadership, and group organizational skills. He also travels across Utah teaching film workshops for the Utah Film Center and brings his expert knowledge to help students master the filmmaking process.

Due to the Fourth of July holiday, this will be a 4-day week with no camp on July 4.

Holiday Art Drop-In: Printmaking Greeting Cards

Make greeting cards to send well wishes or express a message of change. Explore simple printmaking techniques by creating your own foam stamps to design patterns, symbols, or words that reflect what matters most to you. Whether your card is a note of gratitude, hope, or advocacy, it’s a meaningful way to start the new year through art.

This drop-in is inspired by Gaze Into These Eyes, our current exhibition that invites reflection on justice, empathy, and our shared humanity.

Holiday Art Drop-Ins are open from 10 AM–3 PM. Projects typically take 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete—drop in anytime that works for you! All ages and abilities are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.

Holiday Art Drop-In: Mixed Media Portraits
Join us to explore the world of portraits. We’ll start by practicing silly contour line drawings using mirrors, then jump into a fun portrait bingo challenge to spark new ideas. After warming up, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind self-portrait using all sorts of tactile materials such as fabric, felt, yarn, ribbon, and magazine cutouts to build a layered collage. Add images or symbols around your portrait that reflect your goals or hopes for the new year. This activity works for all ages, allowing younger artists to keep it simple while adults can dive deeper. This activity is inspired by themes in our current exhibition, which explores how portraiture helps us understand ourselves and others with greater empathy, care, and connection.

Holiday Art Drop-Ins are open from 10 AM–3 PM. Projects typically take 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete—drop in anytime that works for you! All ages and abilities are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.
