Frame by Frame: Stop-Motion Animation Basics

February 26, 2026 by

In this hands-on animation camp, tweens will learn the basics of stop-motion filmmaking while bringing characters, objects, and stories to life one frame at a time. Tweens will explore the fundamentals of stop-motion animation by creating short animated scenes using simple materials and storytelling techniques. Campers will learn how images become motion while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.

This camp is suited for ages 10-14 only. No camp July 3rd.

Gelli Printing & Mixed Media Collage

February 25, 2026 by

With a local artist, explore printmaking as a tool for creative expression in this teen camp! Students will use Gelli plates — see more on Gelli printing here! —  to create layered mono-prints, experimenting with color, texture, stencils, and mark making to design their own handmade collage papers. Throughout the week, teens will transform their prints into a finished mixed-media collage artwork while developing composition skills and personal artistic style. Perfect for artists who enjoy experimentation, layering, and creative risk-taking, no experience necessary

This camp is suited for ages 13-18 only.

Wheel Throwing

February 24, 2026 by

Get ready to get your hands dirty in Wheel Throwing Camp! In this hands-on camp, teens will learn the basics of pottery and wheel throwing. They’ll discover how to shape clay, create bowls, cups, and other fun pieces on the pottery wheel, all while exploring their creativity and learning new skills. Perfect for teens who want to try something new with clay!  Ages 13-18 only.

Note on firing: All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center 7 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece. On the last day of camp, please join us for an art show to photograph work before it gets fired!

This is a 4-day camp, no camps July 24th.

Watercolor Fundamentals

February 24, 2026 by

With a local watercolor artist, teens will dive into the world of watercolor painting, exploring techniques like wet-on-wet, dry brush, and layering to create vibrant and expressive works of art. They’ll experiment with color blending, brush control, and texture, working on a variety of projects from abstract to representational pieces. By the end of camp, participants will have a collection of watercolor paintings.

This camp is suited for ages 13-18 only.

Found Frames: A Photography Workshop with Alexandra Fuller

January 7, 2026 by

Step into a space of curiosity and wonder in this photography workshop inspired by our current exhibit, Return to Wonder, and led by exhibiting artist Alexandra Fuller. Drawing on ideas from her ongoing series A Participatory Universe, Alex invites participants to consider how framing—not just with a camera, but with our attention—shapes what we see and how we relate to place.

We’ll begin in the classroom at Kimball Art Center, where Alex will offer a short presentation and creative prompts rooted in her artistic process. Then we’ll head out on a group walk around town, discovering and capturing the environment through found or natural “frames.” This project isn’t about technical camera skills—it’s about perspective, play, and perception.

Each participant will have the opportunity to slow down, discover unexpected details, and explore how focused attention can transform the everyday into something extraordinary. The workshop concludes back at Kimball, where we’ll reflect on the experience and share the images created.

Participants must bring their own digital camera that they are comfortable using, whether an iPhone, DSLR, or other device.

Sketches of the Great Salt Lake: Cyanotype Exploration with Alexandra Fuller

January 7, 2026 by

Join Alexandra Fuller, Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter, and Kimball Art Center for a hands-on experiment with photogram and cyanotype processes at the Great Salt Lake.

In parallel with her exhibition at the Kimball Art Center, All Sketches Wish to Be Real, we invite you to join Alexandra Fuller, Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter, and Kimball Art Center for a hands-on exploration of the Great Salt Lake. Guided by a naturalist and inspired by Alex’s cyanotypes, participants will experiment with photogram and cyanotype processes. Each participant will collect objects from the lake’s edge to create their own photogram, and together the group will make a collaborative piece, embracing curiosity, discovery, and play.

Aligned with Swaner’s mission to connect people with the natural world and with their current exhibition Life on the Edge, this workshop takes place at the threshold between land and water in a cold, wet, and salty environment. Dress appropriately for wild weather. Boots are available to borrow. Optional carpooling from Park City with Swaner staff is available. The specific location on the lake will be shared with registrants once signed up.

Come ready to explore, learn and honor this remarkable place.

Cost $40 per participant
