Glass Fusion

Glass Wall Art

February 11, 2019 by

Students will work to build a rectangular piece of wall art. Constructing with glass, students will think in terms of color combinations and imagine them being layered.  Over this 2-class course, students will create a variety of pieces which will be fused together completely.

Due to drying and firing times, glass will be ready to pick up 12-14 days after the class session is finished.

Introduction to Glass Fusion

October 19, 2018 by

Learn the basics of glass fusion while creating one of a kind glass projects in class. We will explore the use of tools to shape and form glass. Properties and types of glass will be discussed, as well basic design concepts to complete several finished projects. Class will cover the use of reactive glasses, frit, rod, and dichroic to create patterns in glass and the use of inclusions in glass such as silver foil. Cold working techniques will be demonstrated to put a finishing touch on the fused glass piece. This class is for beginners and intermediate students continuing their practice in glass fusion. Due to slumping and firing times, glass pieces will be ready for pick up 14-18 days after class has ended.

Adults will be able to choose two of the following classes:

Glass fusion — Learn to use glass shaping tools to make an ornament or pendant. Glass properties and basic design concepts will also be taught.

Printmaking — Participants will be introduced monotype printmaking while exploring brushwork, image transfer, ghost images, stencils and unique tools on the printmaking press.

Figure drawing — Working from a clothed model, attendees will learn various portrait drawing techniques while sketching poses using either charcoal or colored pencils

Ceramics — Learn how to make mugs, cups, vases from clay slabs with introductory hand building techniques.

While adults are sampling the art making process, kids will be tooting their own horns while making unique and working musical instruments with art supplies and recycled finds. They’ll compose clic clacs, hand drums, shakers, and more.
