Using a variety of different mediums, kids will explore the basics of 3D art. Creativity abounds as sculptures big and small are formed from the students’ imagination. Kids will work with clay, paper mache, wire, sculpey polymer clay, and cardboard in making individual and collaborative sculptures.
Mixed Media
Star Wars Terrariums
Students will create their favorite Star Wars characters, then create a miniature environment for them to become a mini terrarium. First, students will make Star Wars characters out of felt, yarn, popsicle sticks, air-dry clay, or other various supplies. They will then decide what kind of environment their characters should be in. Students will search outside for found objects, such as dirt, sand, rocks, sticks, etc., then place their characters inside. Kids will walk away with an awesome terrarium for display. Students will also be making Star Wars themed paintings and drawings to pair with their terrarium. May the creative force be with you!
Paper Mache Animal Heads for Kids
This enticing project will surely be a good time. Students will shape a head with balled up newspaper. Once it’s formed the paper mache fun begins! Covering every inch of the sculpture in the gooey goodness that firmly hardens provides a great painting texture. Acrylic paints will be used when the animal has been sculpted to bring the creature to life!
Altered Books for Kids
Kids learn about how an altered book is a form of mixed media artwork that changes a book from it’s original form to a different form, changing it’s appearance or meaning. Kids will choose a topic that is meaningful to them (i.e. travel, comics, love, friendship). Then, students will have the opportunity to work with paint, vintage papers, feathers, stencils, and markers to create compositions in their book that align with their book theme. If they are up for a challenge, kids can even learn the “pop-up” book technique to give their altered book a 3-D quality. The options are endless! Bring your creativity and have fun!
LaLaLa Musikalia
What happens when we mix art and music together? Magic! Students build unique musical instruments in this class using art materials and recycled materials. Kids will make these projects their own by detailing the instruments with colors and symbols using painting and drawing materials. Kids will make mini guitars, hand drums, shakers, and more to create their very own artistic ensemble!
YogART for Kids
Be creative and active in YogART with Randi Jo! During the first hour, Randi Jo will lead a yoga lesson with the kids. During the second half of the class, kids will participate in an art project that aligns with the theme of the day. Kids will learn about mandalas, chakras, meditation, and mindfulness while creating and having fun!
