Park City, UT – Kimball Art Center (KAC) is thrilled to welcome local multi-media artist Jimmi Toro’s exhibition, Kindle a Light, to the Kimball Art Center. Toro is a Salt Lake City-based painter, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer. In Kindle a Light, he brings together all of these mediums to present an immersive experience.
Inspired by Carl Jung’s observation that, “As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of a mere being,” Kindle a Light focuses on the human figure, and speaks to humanity in its many forms, and the deep connections that bind us all. Kindle a Light is also a unique opportunity to view the creative process. In this interwoven exhibition, each piece inspires the other—a song creates a visual image, a painting comes to life in video. Sight and sound combine, creating a new connection between artist and viewer. It is a complete immersion in the intrepid and thoughtful mind of Toro, shedding a brilliant new light on the darkness of mere being.
“Toro’s distinctive style blends control and chaos. It heightens each painting with each portrait becoming a thoughtful consideration of a person or state of being,” says Nancy Stoaks, Exhibitions Director for the Kimball Art Center.
Kindle a Light opens September 1, 2017, and will run through November 26, 2017. Kimball Art Center members are invited to a Members Preview with Jimmi Toro on Thursday, August 31st from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.
