Weekly Class

Adult Drawing Session 1

July 21, 2022 by

Over the course of five weeks, learn methods and fun exercises to explore sketching and drawing!

Session Summary:

Class 1: Organic Sketching. Pencils… We begin by learning wonderful new pencil techniques and skills to set you on the path to successful and comfortable renderings. Unique methods and fun exercises immediately build confidence and positivity. We learn the difference between Sketching & Drawing. All levels of ability benefit from this class, and these skills cross over into any future mediums you use. Today you will leave with plenty of new techniques to practice at home to be ready for the next class. Your right brain will love you for this!

Class 2: Speed sketching and observation. Pencil control exercises to reinforce and solidify our new techniques will get us going. We will then explore composition and structure and develop more 3-dimensional forms while testing our sketching skills. Shading techniques are taught and practiced. We focus the last hour on a long sketch of your choosing! Yay! Something to show off online or hang on the fridge!

Class 3: Push, pull, twist, stretch. Let’s transition to a different state of mind and discover how to accurately alter and form/deform shapes to fit our needs. Of all the things we learn, these skills are the most vital in creating 3-dimensional objects and finding realism in our art! Bend, fold, bloat, and squish your drawing skills in a follow-the-leader exercise, then experiment on your own creating a wonderfully Dr.Seussian-esque drawing! This is where you realize no artistic hurdle is too high. And it is so much fun!

Class 4: Prepping for the Big One. We begin preliminary sketches for our final artwork, prepping with small doodles and quick notations, softening edges and practicing techniques that apply. This is a very introverted session, as you critique your own sketches while talking yourself into new ideas. I will help you tear down that fear of going too far, remove the limitations you put on yourself when you think too much! (Art is about feeling, not thinking) Today is all about how you take an idea from your mind to the paper in a single process. This day you begin a successful life of creating.

Class 5: Organic Drawing. Today you showed up with a vision, an idea, and a head full of confidence. We begin with some warmup artistic exercises, and then you confidently employ all the awesome skills you’ve learned and begin your Masterpiece! Step by step like a recipe, you will add and build and critique your way to a wonderful Drawing that will make you proud. I will be your silent mentor ready to help you as needed, suggest a few tweeks if you ask for them, and help keep the momentum.

A lot can be accomplished in five weeks of learning, and when it prepares you for an artistically healthy & positive life of creativity, it is a sweet thing!
