(Park City, Utah) When you think about a live performance, musicians, actors, maybe even comedians come to mind. But on May 31st, artists will take center stage as they create paintings, drawings, and other artwork in front of a live audience at Kimball Art Center.
This is the second year Kimball Art Center and Park City Summit County Arts Council have partnered to host the Monster Drawing event, which allows spectators to spy on the creative process, interact with local artists, and grow their own art collections.
“The event provides a 360-degree view of the creative process — from concept to completion,” noted Kimball’s executive director Jory Macomber. “Watching an artist create work in real time is incredibly inspiring, and spectators are sure to leave with a deeper appreciation for our local talent.”
Here’s how the event works — over the course of the night, artists take shifts creating artwork for 50 minutes. Finished pieces are available immediately for $50, and any piece with more than one hopeful owner will be decided by a random card draw.
“Not knowing who will win the artwork adds to the fast-paced nature of this event,” noted Hadley Dynak, executive director of the Park City Summit County Arts Council. “Winners are determined by luck of the draw, not how much they can pay, which we feel adds to the suspense and also our mission — to provide art access to everyone in our community.”
Tickets for the event are on sale now for $20 and will be $25 at the door. Live music, a cash bar and food donated by Boneyard Saloon and Café Trio will add to the evening.
