Monster Drawing Rally Returns to Kimball Art Center June 6th
This fast-paced, live art-making event is equal parts creative and chaotic.
(Park City, Utah) When you think about a live performance, musicians, actors, maybe even comedians come to mind. But on June 6th, artists will take center stage as they create paintings, drawings, and other artwork in front of a live audience at Kimball Art Center.
This is the third year Kimball Art Center and Park City Summit County Arts Council have partnered to host the Monster Drawing event, which allows spectators to spy on the creative process, interact with local artists, and grow their own art collections.
“The event provides a 360-degree view of the creative process — from concept to completion,” noted Kimball Art Center’s executive director Jory Macomber. “Watching an artist create work in real time is incredibly inspiring, and spectators are sure to leave with a deeper appreciation for our local talent.”
Here’s how it works: Over the course of the night, artists take shifts creating artwork for 50 minutes. Finished pieces made from collage, watercolor, acrylic, graphite, and other media are immediately available for purchase for $50 each. Pieces with more than one hopeful buyer are sold in a “luck of the draw” style format.
“Not knowing who will win the artwork adds to the fast-paced nature of this event,” noted Jocelyn Scudder, managing director of the Park City Summit County Arts Council. “Winners are determined by a card draw, not how much they can pay, which we feel adds to the suspense and also our mission — to provide art access to everyone in our community.”
Monster Draw is a partnership fundraising event for Park City Summit County Arts Council and Kimball Art Center, with proceeds benefiting both nonprofits. Tickets for the event are on sale now for $20 and will be $25 at the door. Music, a cash bar, and food donated by Boneyard Saloon will add to the evening.
Participating artists include:
C. Scott Bevan
Renee Mox Hall
Monster Draw will take place at Kimball Art Center, located at 1401 Kearns Blvd on June 6th from 6-9pm.
