Lights, Camera, Create: Filmmaking

March 3, 2026 by

In this hands-on filmmaking camp, teens will explore the fundamentals of visual storytelling through film. Young filmmakers will learn the basics of planning, shooting, and editing while experimenting with camera angles, sound, and narrative structure. Through collaborative projects and creative exercises, students will build confidence, develop their ideas, and gain insight into how stories come to life on screen!

The camp will be led by Parker Gehring, a director, writer, producer, and editor of the independently produced film Lucy and Whitney. Parker, who holds a BA in Media Arts from Brigham Young University , has a strong background in film theory, leadership, and group organizational skills. He also travels across Utah teaching film workshops for the Utah Film Center and brings his expert knowledge to help students master the filmmaking process.

This camp is suited for ages 13-18 only.

Self Expression through Illustration

February 27, 2026 by

Tweens will explore the power of illustration as a tool for self-expression, learning how to bring ideas, emotions, and stories to life through drawing. Campers will experiment with techniques, styles, and materials while developing confidence in their own creative voice. By the end of the week, each participant will have a portfolio of original drawings that reflect their personality and imagination.

This camp is suited for ages 10-14 only. No camp Aug 7th.

Wheel Throwing 2

February 27, 2026 by

Get ready to get your hands dirty in Wheel Throwing Camp! In this hands-on camp, young artists will learn the basics of pottery and wheel throwing. They’ll discover how to shape clay, create bowls, cups, and other fun pieces on the pottery wheel, all while exploring their creativity and learning new skills. Perfect for tweens who love getting crafty and want to try something new with clay!  Ages 10-14 only.

Note on firing: All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center 7 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece. On the last day of camp, please join us for an art show to photograph work before it gets fired!

No camp Aug 7th.

Through structured exercises and individual projects, teens will gain familiarity with the medium while building observational skills and confidence in their painting practice.

This camp is suited for ages 13-18 only.

Encaustic and Printmaking Studio

February 27, 2026 by

With local encaustic artist, Shanoa Allowitz, tweens will dive into the exciting worlds of printmaking and encaustic (wax) art, exploring new ways to create layered, textured artwork. Over the course of the camp, they’ll experiment with techniques, develop their own designs, and gain hands-on experience in this unique medium. This camp encourages creativity, artistic risk-taking, and a deeper understanding of how different mediums can work together to make striking, original art, no experience necessary!

This camp is suited for ages 10-14 only.

Mural Studio: Spray Paint & Public Art

February 27, 2026 by

Select finished murals may be displayed at Kimball Arts Fest, giving students the experience of creating art for a real public audience.
