Wheel Throwing Basics Session 1

March 10, 2023 by

This six week course introduces students to the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Your instructor will cover technique, trimming, and glazing application. All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center lobby 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece.

Tool Making for Pottery Workshop (2 Day)

February 23, 2023 by

Enjoy two days of tool-making for your pottery studio kit. For this workshop, we will get creative off the wheel  – nothing is off limits as a potential clay tool and no clay tool has just one use. Each student will leave with new tools for their trade, tools which they made by their own hand. Tools created will include a personal trimming bat, tools for shaping and creating consistency from piece to piece and more. Previous introductory wheel throwing experience is advised for students to gain the most from this workshop.  All work will be fired and ready for pick up 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled.

Senses, Play and Memory – An Installation Art Workshop

February 14, 2023 by

In Stefan Lesueur’s project Sky Lights (included in the current exhibition), the sky is presented as a motif that is both universal and personal. Everyone recognizes the sky, but seeing the sky in a particular state (like a sunset) or knowing that it is over a certain place brings about specific memories and stories. In his workshop, Stefan invites participants to partake in playful tasks that help us observe and understand how each of the five senses function physically, and how they influence our perception and memory. Through these exercises, participants will learn how to use sensorial cues to create a certain mood, translate a story or place, or even reinvigorate an unused space.
