Daytime Wheel Throwing Session 2
A beginner class with a series of skill-building practices will introduce you to the joys of working with clay on the wheel. The basic skills of wheel-thrown pottery will be introduced through step-by-step instruction in clay preparation, throwing on the wheel, trimming, handles and the firing process. Students will learn how to throw a cylinder, cup, bowl, and plate. All work will be fired and ready for pick up at the Kimball Art Center 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece.

Wheel Throwing Basics Session 1
This six week course introduces students to the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Your instructor will cover technique, trimming, and glazing application. This class is designed for beginners. If you’ve taken this specific course more than three times, we encourage you to enroll in one of our more advanced classes. It’s crucial for our beginner students to have a class tailored specifically to their needs. We emphasize this class-based model because our qualified instructors offer invaluable learning opportunities, making active participation essential.

Handbuilding in Clay Session 2
A 4 week session that allows the artists to design, form, and complete a hand-building project using slab, coil, or pinch construction. Surface and glazing techniques will be explored and designed to complement their project. Clay handbuilding techniques allow for true freedom of form. Captivating asymmetry and unique sculptural aesthetic can be achieved using techniques like slab rolling, pinching, and coil building. We will learn and practice the skills needed to create functional and sculptural vessels, finishing with carved patterns, attached elements, underglazes, and glazes to decorate our handbuilt pieces. Students will walk away with unique ceramic art. All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work.
