Writing the Present: Poetry, Presence, and the Creative Voice

November 21, 2025 by

This 6-week writing course invites writers, creatives, and the creatively curious into a dynamic exploration of voice, attention, and expression. Rooted in mindfulness, each session offers a blend of guided meditation, creative prompts, close reading, and reflective conversation, designed to open space for creative risk-taking and deeper presence on the page.

Whether you’re new to writing or looking to reinvigorate your creative practice, this course provides a supportive environment to slow down, notice more, and write from a place of aliveness and authenticity.

Materials:

  • Notebook or journal
  • Pen or pencil
  • Optional: any poems or texts you love

More about the instructor:
Rebecca Brenner is an author, mindfulness meditation teacher, and journalist whose work has appeared in TIME, LA Times, Tin House, and more. She is a journalist at TownLift and serves as president and co-founder of Mindful. Summit County, a nonprofit advancing mindfulness as a tool for community care. Rebecca is also an elected member of Summit Pride’s Leadership Team, where she collaborates with local and state leaders to foster safety and equality for queer communities. Her debut memoir-in-verse, Paper House, explores themes of loss and resilience and was published by Wayfarer Books in June 2025.

November 20, 2025 by

Join professional artist Samantha da Silva for a transformative 2-day workshop designed to unleash your creativity. In this immersive experience, you’ll explore innovative techniques, using rollers instead of brushes and unconventional materials like paint, plaster, and sand to create textured abstract art that reflects your unique vision. Let go of fear and silence your inner critic in a supportive environment where exploration and fun take precedence. No prior experience is needed — just an open mind and a willingness to dive in.

Discover the fearless artist within you. Join us and create something extraordinary!

What to Expect
1. Opening Circle: We’ll start our journey together by connecting as a group. Share your intentions and set the tone for a weekend filled with creativity and inspiration.

2. Philosophy: Dive into the idea that “the process of creating evolves into ideas.” You’ll learn that every stroke of paint is a step toward discovering more about yourself and your art.

3. How to Begin: We’ll discuss how to set your intentions and how to tone your canvas to prepare for a day of artistic exploration.

4. FearLESS Abstract Painting Foundational Techniques: Experience hands-on learning as you use nature as your inspiration. You’ll master techniques like applying paint with rollers, blending colors with water, and manipulating the canvas to create depth and texture.

5. Texture Exploration: Discover the differences between modeling paste and gel medium, and learn how to make your own mediums using local materials like salt, sand, and sawdust.
