Painting and Drawing Club Fall Session 1

Designed for young artists in grades 6–9, this eight-week after-school club combines skill-building with a creative community. Students will explore a variety of 2D mediums including watercolor, charcoal, mixed media, art and advocacy projects, and more while strengthening their drawing and painting skills.

Students will connect with other young artists, develop their own artistic voice and style, and begin building a portfolio of work. Whether your child wants to deepen their love of art, find a community of creative peers, or prepare for future opportunities such as Kimball Art Center’s Young Artists Academy and other advanced programs, this club offers a supportive space to grow.

Drawing Level II

Take your drawing practice to the next level in this Level II class focused on refining technique, deepening observation, and developing a personal artistic voice. Students will build on foundational skills while exploring more complex subjects and detailed studies.

This course is intended to be a follow up for Drawing Level I or if you have previous drawing experience. This is a 6-week course.

Drawing, Level II – Materials List

  • drawing paper pad (Strathmore 9 x 12 recommended)
  • pencils: one each of 2H, 2B, 4B, 6B
  • kneaded eraser
  • white vinyl eraser
  • pencil sharpener
  • tracing paper
  • vine charcoal
  • black compressed charcoal (soft, medium, hard)
  • white chalk pencil
  • blending stumps

Drawing Level I

Ready to start drawing but not sure where to begin? This beginner-friendly class introduces the foundational skills needed to build confidence with pencil and paper. Students will explore core concepts such as line, shape, value, shading, perspective, and composition through engaging, step-by-step exercises.

No prior experience necessary. This is a 6-week course.

Figure Drawing

Share drawing techniques and skills in a group setting while working with a model to communicate poses and complete timed sketches. This open-studio session is just $12.50 per person. *Participants must be at least 18 years of age and bring their own drawing materials. Nude model.  

Suggested materials:
– Charcoal or graphite
– A sharpener
– Drawing board with clips
– Drawing Paper
– Kneaded eraser
or
– Sketchbook with colored pencils, graphite and sharpener
