Explorations in Painting III
Take time to relax and learn to paint with either acrylic or oil paints in this class (student’s choice). Students will learn to paint from references – either photographs and/or still life sets. Students can bring in their own photographs to paint. By the last day of class, students will have the skills necessary to continue painting on their own, or advance to another class. Teens 14+ are also welcome to enroll.xpression.
Painting Pet Portraits
Adult and Teen 14+
Working in the student’s choice of paint medium (oil, acrylic, or watercolor), Annette will teach students how to successfully paint a pet portrait. Students will learn how to break down the figure of a pet or animal into basic shapes to help accurately depict the subject. Using photographic references, learn how to simplify the subject’s form, which is a valuable skill in drawing/painting and can be applied to still lifes and the human figure. Students will learn portrait and painting techniques to capture the likeness of animals, and become more comfortable with their favored paint medium, discovering new skills in painting and drawing. Students should come to class with photographic references of the pet or animal they would like to paint. Teens 14+ are also welcome to enroll.
Wildlife Painting
Learn how to create lifelike paintings of animals and participate in one of humanity’s earliest art forms (dating back to prehistoric cave paintings!). Whether painting a portrait of a horse, a moose, birds or one’s beloved pet(s), students will work on creating good composition, practice color mixing and brush handling techniques to depict the beauty of animals and their environments. This is a great opportunity for beginners or advanced oil painters to expand their subject matter. Photographic references will be used in this course. Start collecting your favorite wildlife images! The instructor will also bring a supply of good photos that students may use.
Choose Your Own Medium: Pastel & Watercolor
These sessions will teach the basics of each medium. Intermediate students are welcome to participate as Jeanne will work at the individual pace of each student. Jeanne will teach you how to use the correct tools and the correct methods to achieve an awesome painting. On the first day of class, please bring one piece of Masonite or a thick wood panel to tape down the paper. Jeanne LaRae/Kimball Art Center will supply the pastels and the watercolor. This will allow you to explore these new mediums without a huge investment. This is a class that will help you learn the skills to move forward into other drawing and painting classes with more confidence and abilities to paint either on your own or along with an instructor. This class will be split into two sessions – 3 classes focusing on pastel, and 3 classes focusing on watercolor. You are welcome to continue in one medium if you choose.
Teen Fall Break Art Camp
Teens have fun with Anna exploring painting and drawing in this 2 day art camp! Students will enjoy Anna’s relaxed approach to strengthening their drawing skills, which ultimately translates into painting skills. Weather permitting, students will walk to local parks to sketch en plein air (outside), allowing them to practice perspective, form, and proportions. In the case of inclement weather, students will work from reference photos of their choosing. Thursday’s focus will be drawing, Friday’s focus will be painting.
