In this camp, we will practice thinking outside of the box by turning recycled materials into art. Each project will start with a limited number of supplies from the recycling center, and a prompt. For example, students could be given lightbulbs, wire, and duct tape, and asked to create “movement”. The artists will be challenged to see objects for their shapes rather than their functions. They will strengthen their creative brain by defining a single-word concept with simple, raw materials. Seeing the world for its possibilities is a problem-solving skill that is valuable in all aspects of life. This camp is for 10-14 yr olds.

This camp will blend visual art with kinetic energy, encouraging participants to experiment with gestural drawing or painting, create patterns through movement, and explore the relationship between sound and art. Discover how movement and imagination can bring art to life in new and exciting ways! Due to the Kimball Arts Festival, this will be a 4-day week with no camp on August 1.
Whimsical Clay Creations
In this teen clay camp imagine and engineer sculptural machines using hand-building techniques such as coil and slab building. These whimsical contraptions, reminiscent of Rube Goldberg designs, can serve various purposes: they can perform tasks, enhance decor, or contribute to personal rituals. For example, you might create a clay machine that clears negative thoughts or perhaps a decorative piece that doubles as a candle holder. In this class, the possibilities are endless as we make our clay sculptures interactive!
All work will be fired and ready for pick up at the Kimball Art Center 14 days after your class. We do not ship class work.
