This class explores various art media including painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, clay and fine craft. Students develop a knowledge of art processes, how to explore and experiment on their own, and learn art techniques to improve their ability. Some projects may span more than one class meeting and students may have fun creative homework. This class is for students who are 7 – 10 years of age only.
Sculpture
Clay Sugar Skull Sculptures
Get in the spirit of Dia de los Muertos and learn how to make traditional Mexican style sugar skulls out of clay with your family. Kristen will show students examples of classic designs to help students carve and add painted detail to their clay mask sculptures. Kids and adults alike will get creative in designing their sugar skull. Bring your imagination, we’ll have the tools to help you create! Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 7-10 days after the class session is finished.
Winter Art Wonders for Tots
Winter is magical and it’s fun to make art to celebrate the season. Tots will paint wondrous winter landscape paintings, cut and paste snowflake shapes, and build snowy sculptures out of clay. Each day will have a new wintery adventure in store! Tots learn valuable creative skills while having a blast.
Tots Think 3D!
Tots have fun with Cameron learning about sculpture and 3D forms. Experiment with paper, cardboard, clay, and fun mixed media materials. Tots will make something new each day to bring home. Think outside the box, think 3D! Parents do not need to accompany children in this class, but students need to be 4 to 5 years of age.
Ceramic Snowman Sculptures
Join Cameron in the Kimball Clay Studio to create snowman sculptures that will last forever. Using small water balloons, students will learn how to mold clay around the balloons (with help from their parents) to create a unique snowman! Students will also paint their creations with white and colored glazes. Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 7-10 days after the class.
