Watercolor Fundamentals

February 24, 2026 by

With a local watercolor artist, teens will dive into the world of watercolor painting, exploring techniques like wet-on-wet, dry brush, and layering to create vibrant and expressive works of art. They’ll experiment with color blending, brush control, and texture, working on a variety of projects from abstract to representational pieces. By the end of camp, participants will have a collection of watercolor paintings.

This camp is suited for ages 13-18 only.

Art Around Us: Exploring Habitats and Creatures

February 24, 2026 by

Explore the diverse and fascinating world of local wildlife right here in the mountains of Park City. This week-long journey is tailor-made for mini artists curious about the creatures that share our natural surroundings, from majestic mountain lions to charming moose capturing them in various media from paint to sculpture.

This camp is suited for children aged 4-5 only.

All About Animals!

February 24, 2026 by

Bring your favorite animals to life through clay, paint, and mixed media! Campers will explore different ways to create animals from sculpted pets and wild animals to imaginative creatures while learning basic art techniques and expressing their creativity. Projects are hands-on, fun, and designed for young artists to take home their own one-of-a-kind animal creations.

Note on firing: All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center 7 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece. On the last day of camp, please join us for an art show to photograph work before it gets fired!

This camp is suited for ages 6-12.

Wheel Throwing 1

February 24, 2026 by

They’ll discover how to shape clay, create bowls, cups, and other fun pieces on the pottery wheel, all while exploring their creativity and learning new skills. Perfect for kids who love getting crafty and want to try something new with clay!  Ages 8-12 only.

Painting Concepts Winter/Spring Session 1

October 30, 2025 by

Find your own painting style.

Develop your own unique style while exploring the tools and techniques to make a great painting from start to finish. Practice the elements of art and design, composition, color theory, and brushwork, while drawing inspiration from artists around the world to learn new approaches to creativity and expressing emotions with paint. Techniques like priming, layering, glazing, and varnishing will be demonstrated. Students will walk away with a finished painting as well as confidence to continue to explore the medium.

All ability levels benefit from this class. This is a 6 week course.

Materials:

– Sketchbook

– Pencils

– Eraser

– A pad of Canvas paper (Oleo, thick watercolor paper, or canva paper is fine)

– Oil Paints OR Acrylic Paints

Kits are fine, but if you choose to purchase individual tubes of color, please include these:

  • Titanium white
  • Ivory black
  • Cadmium Red
  • Permanent Alizarin Crimson
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • Lemon Yellow

– Optional additional colors Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber

– Firm Bristle Paint Brushes Please select one or two small, medium, and large round brushes, as well as flathead brushes

-Palette: A palette is any surface on which you can mix your paint. I prefer to use a covered palette which preserves paint for longer use. You want a palette big enough to mix all your colors on

– Odorless Gamsol, Turpenoid, or other odorless mineral spirits

-Linseed Oil: Linseed oil increases the transparency of paint as well as the fluidity, while maintaining the paint’s oil base.

-Glass Jar: to hold our solvent. You may want to purchase one with a metal coil inside to help clean brushes. Bring an extra empty, sealable jam jar as well.

-Palette Knife; if you prefer to mix your colors with brushes, that is fine.

-Rags: Used for cleaning/drying brushes

-Painting Clothes: These are clothes you don’t mind getting paint on

-Canvas: Canvas boards are very economical but you may want to choose a stretched canvas. The stretched canvases one can purchase at art stores are already primed and ready to paint on. If you are stretching your own canvas, you will need to prime your surface with an acrylic gesso.  Bring at least one of a smaller dimension, for example an 8” x 10” canvas board, and one larger surface, for example a 16” x 20” stretched canvas.
