Kimball Art Center Events Hit the Right Note

March 13, 2018 by Kimball Art Center

(Park City, UT) — Kimball Art Center is hosting two upcoming events designed to satisfy curiARTsity and explore music’s connection to the creative process.

The first event, Listen to Your Art, will be held Thursday April 5th, from 6:30-8:30pm and is an art appetizer of sorts, allowing curious or aspiring artists to try their hand at various media.

The evening will feature four condensed art classes for adults and one class for children under 12. Demonstrations from teachers, all art materials, hors d’oeuvres, and personalized instruction are all included in the $35/per adult and $20/per child price. A cash bar is also available.

Adult participants will be able to choose two of the following classes:

Glass fusion — Using glass shaping tools, participants will make an ornament or pendant. Glass properties and basic design concepts will also be taught.

Printmaking — Attendees will be introduced monotype printmaking while exploring brushwork, image transfer, ghost images, stencils and unique tools on the printmaking press.

Figure drawing — Working from a clothed model, students will learn various portrait drawing techniques while sketching poses using either charcoal or colored pencils

Ceramics — Make mugs, cups, and vases from clay slabs with introductory handbuilding techniques.

While adults are sampling the art making process, kids will be tooting their own horns and making unique and working musical instruments with art supplies and recycled finds. They’ll compose clic clacs, hand drums, shakers, and more.

“This is a fitting kids’ class, considering music will be the focus at the Kimball just one night later,” noted Kimball Art Center’s executive director, Jory Macomber. “On April 6th, the Kimball will play host to the acoustic arts, with a Listening Room event,” he explained.

Macomber says he envisions music and performance playing a role in the future Arts and Culture District, and he wants to see artists supporting artists, regardless of what type of art they practice.

“The Listening Room is an opportunity for local musicians to showcase their talents in a relaxed social setting. From singers to pianists to poets, this event is sure to be music to the ears of everyone who attends,” Macomber added.

The Listening Room will take place in the Kimball’s main gallery and will feature a variety of musical genres with performances by Kristen Lloyd, Omar Gerardo, Shane Jackman, Molly McGinnis, Teresa Eggertson Cook, The PCHS Jazz ensemble, and more.

Doors open at 6:30, with music from 7-9pm. Tickets are $20 each and a cash bar will be available.
