Week 3 (June 22nd-26th)

Lights, Camera, Create: Filmmaking

March 3, 2026 by

In this hands-on filmmaking camp, teens will explore the fundamentals of visual storytelling through film. Young filmmakers will learn the basics of planning, shooting, and editing while experimenting with camera angles, sound, and narrative structure. Through collaborative projects and creative exercises, students will build confidence, develop their ideas, and gain insight into how stories come to life on screen!

The camp will be led by Parker Gehring, a director, writer, producer, and editor of the independently produced film Lucy and Whitney. Parker, who holds a BA in Media Arts from Brigham Young University , has a strong background in film theory, leadership, and group organizational skills. He also travels across Utah teaching film workshops for the Utah Film Center and brings his expert knowledge to help students master the filmmaking process.

This camp is suited for ages 13-18 only.

Through guided projects, students will build creativity, teamwork, and confidence while bringing their ideas to life on screen.

Fuzzy Creations: Felting Camp

February 24, 2026 by

Kids will learn the basics of felting while working with colorful fibers to create soft, imaginative projects. Through guided activities and creative exploration, campers will build fine motor skills, patience, and confidence while making one-of-a-kind felted artworks.

Suited for ages 6-12.

Wheel Throwing 2

February 24, 2026 by

Get ready to get messy in Wheel Throwing Camp! In this hands-on camp, young artists will learn the basics of pottery and wheel throwing. They’ll discover how to shape clay, create bowls, cups, and other fun pieces on the pottery wheel, all while exploring their creativity and learning new skills. Perfect for kids who love getting crafty and want to try something new with clay!  Ages 8-12 only.

Note on firing: All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center 7 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece. On the last day of camp, please join us for an art show to photograph work before it gets fired!

OFFSITE Camp: Storybook Studio: Art Inspired by Books @ Parleys Park Elementary

April 2, 2025 by

Calling all book lovers and budding artists! In this camp, we’ll bring our favorite stories to life through art. Each day, we’ll explore a new book—diving into its characters, settings, and themes—then use it as inspiration for creative projects. From illustrated scenes and character sketches to mixed-media storytelling and handmade books, we’ll experiment with a variety of artistic techniques. Whether you love fantasy, adventure, or classic tales, this camp is the perfect blend of reading, imagination, and hands-on creativity!

Ages 4-6
Camp will be at Parleys Park Elementary – more information can be found on Compass

Watercolor Techniques

February 21, 2025 by

Watercolor is not usually thought of as a bold medium. In fact, it is not always thought of as a stand-alone professional medium. In this camp we will challenge that myth using different techniques like layering washes, masking for contrast, and fearlessly applying bright color combinations. We will practice controlled, wet-on-dry painting, as well as loose wet-on-wet application for different effects.  We will also learn the importance of preparing and planning each piece in order to gain confidence in controlling the medium without compromising the beauty of its natural flow.  Ultimately, artists will come away with a new appreciation for the limitlessness of watercolor. This camp is great for teens 13-18 yr olds looking to dive into the world of watercolor!
