Abstract Painting- Mixed Media Workshop

October 2, 2023 by

Join artist Nina Miller in this exciting workshop on exploring Abstract Painting. Learn a brief history of Abstract Expressionism and tap into your own creativity! Experiment while doing quick exercises playing with several materials. Students will walk away with a new excitement for creating and inspiration. This will be a time of play while learning about line, gesture, movement, texture, color, surface, and balance.

In this workshop, you’ll learn methods of creating different surfaces using chalk & oil pastels, graphite, charcoal, paint, ink and unconventional tools. During the 2.5 hours, you’ll have the opportunity to play, experiment, and enjoy the process. No previous artistic experience is necessary!

Wheel Try It

July 31, 2023 by

This is not a typical class, instead, a studio staff member will provide a demonstration at the start of the session in either wheel throwing or hand building techniques. A nominal $45 fee includes enough clay for two completed pieces as well as firing and glazing. All ages are welcome, but children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Potter’s wheel not recommended for children under 8. All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center lobby 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece.
