These sessions will teach the basics of each medium. Intermediate students are welcome to participate as Jeanne will work at the individual pace of each student. Jeanne will teach you how to use the correct tools and the correct methods to achieve an awesome painting. On the first day of class, please bring one piece of Masonite or a thick wood panel to tape down the paper. Jeanne LaRae/Kimball Art Center will supply the pastels and the watercolor. This will allow you to explore these new mediums without a huge investment. This is a class that will help you learn the skills to move forward into other drawing and painting classes with more confidence and abilities to paint either on your own or along with an instructor. This class will be split into two sessions – 3 classes focusing on pastel, and 3 classes focusing on watercolor. You are welcome to continue in one medium if you choose.

Teen Fall Break Art Camp
Teens have fun with Anna exploring painting and drawing in this 2 day art camp! Students will enjoy Anna’s relaxed approach to strengthening their drawing skills, which ultimately translates into painting skills. Weather permitting, students will walk to local parks to sketch en plein air (outside), allowing them to practice perspective, form, and proportions. In the case of inclement weather, students will work from reference photos of their choosing. Thursday’s focus will be drawing, Friday’s focus will be painting. Spaces fill fast – register in advance to reserve your space.
Painting for Kids
Anyone can learn to paint! This class encourages students to explore the medium of painting through a variety of techniques emphasizing concepts of shape, volume, and color. With subject matter varying from representational to free form, this class is designed to encourage confidence and creative expression through paint.
Favorite Faces Gallery: Drawing & Painting People and Critters Kids Love
Kids get to draw and paint portraits of the people and critters that are central to their lives, including themselves. Silly, serious and/or full of make believe portraits tell stories about both the subject and the artist. Students learn about adding supporting elements to art that help reveal the true nature of the subject. Kids will work with dry media as well as acrylics on canvas board. Printed, student-supplied photo reference of subject matter is required.
Birds in the Aspen Tree
Tots have fun learning about the textures and colors of local aspen trees while making art. Anna will lead fun painting exercises to help students create beautiful aspen tree paintings. Students will also learn about local birds that live in the mountains. Using watercolor wax resist techniques, Anna will show students how to make birds, creating a painted collage for students to take home. This is a great art lesson in layering and collage that little ones will love!
Winter Art Wonders for Tots
Winter is magical and it’s fun to make art to celebrate the season. Tots will paint wondrous winter landscape paintings, cut and paste snowflake shapes, and build snowy sculptures out of clay. Each day will have a new wintery adventure in store! Tots learn valuable creative skills while having a blast.
