In this class, students will work with Emily to discover various methods of drawing. This class will be an exploration of drawing materials. Students will be given the opportunity to experiment with different colored paper, charcoal, graphite, powdered graphite/charcoal, white charcoal, pastel pencils and liquefied graphite and charcoal. Students may bring in images they wish to work with or they may work from a still life that will be set up for each class.
Wednesday
Print, Paint, Repeat for Teens
Dive into the art of printmaking! Using wood blocks, teens will learn how to build surfaces onto the block to create images and prints. Teens will also learn about relief printmaking, where students carve into foam to make beautiful impressions. Some everyday objects can be used in printmaking, and Janice will show teens what can be used so they can try printmaking at home! Students will leave class with a series of prints after class.
Throw Big for Teens
Learn the tricks of making large ceramic bowls, bottles, and other wheel thrown forms using stacking and alternative throwing techniques. Dream big, and make big. All abilities welcome. Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 10-12 days after the class session is finished.
Painting Pet Portraits for Teens
Refine your drawing and painting skills with Anna, who will teach you how sketch and paint your pet or favorite animal. Bring a photo of your pet or any creature you love and learn how to construct a painting of it by using some of the fundamental elements of art and principles of design. We will study the major shapes and forms of your animal in order to make accurate sketches. Then after investigating the color and lighting within your photo, we will begin to paint your animal. This class will help you learn how to analyze the basic visual characteristics of animals and how to depict them through the painting process.
Stop-Motion Animation for Teens
Students will learn to create animation ‘loops’ or GIFs using stop-motion animation. Teens will have the opportunity to view examples of work and brainstorm some concepts together. Learn what a “Loop” is, and create animated sculptures. The bulk of the week will focus on the animating process and creating characters. Teens will experience guided editing, rendering, and putting final animations on flash drives (for take-home), and will present their work during class. Paper Mache Animal Heads for Teens
This enticing project will surely be a good time. Students will shape a head with balled up newspaper. Once it’s formed the paper mache fun begins! Covering every inch of the sculpture in the gooey goodness that firmly hardens provides a great painting texture. Acrylic paints will be used when the animal has been sculpted to bring the creature to life!
