Mosaics for Kids

April 1, 2017 by

This is a favorite art experience for kids in Park City. Glass and tile are great mediums for growing confidence in a child’s creativity. The students are given lots of freedom in their choice of design and project goals. They learn skills in cutting, placing, grouting and finishing a mosaic masterpiece. Students return year after year and become extraordinarily proficient in this art form. This is an art piece they will be proud of their entire lives.

Print, Paint, Repeat for Kids

April 1, 2017 by

Dive into the art of printmaking!  Using wood blocks, kids will learn how to build surfaces onto the block to create images and prints.  Kids will also learn about relief printmaking, where students carve into foam to make beautiful impressions.  Some everyday objects can be used in printmaking, and Janice will show kids what can be used so they can try printmaking at home!  Kids will leave class with a series of prints and a new skill!

Shapeland for Kids

April 1, 2017 by

Students will explore shapes in this class, and how they can form stamps, prints, and textures.  Kids will be making projects using rolling pins, creating their own stamps, and exploring how to use common everyday objects to make beautiful paintings.

Nature Art for Kids

March 31, 2017 by

Kids will explore their creativity outside in the sunshine learning how to collage, draw, paint and sculpt using natural materials such as leaves, flowers, and twigs.  Students will learn and talk about well-known “earthworks” or “land art” while learning about the environment and how to make eco-friendly artwork.

Rad Recycled Reptiles

March 31, 2017 by

Learn about radical reptiles through art in this class.  Kids will make 3-D sculpture animals out of recycled materials and paint.  Alligators, turtles, bull frogs, and lizards are on the creative menu, and kids will take home a zoo of creatures to display.

Stop-Motion Animation for Kids

March 31, 2017 by

Students will learn to create animation ‘loops’ or GIFs using stop-motion animation. Kids will have the opportunity to view examples of work, and brainstorm some concepts together. Learn what a “Loop” is, and create animated sculptures. The bulk of the week will focus on the animating process and creating characters. Kids will experience guided editing, rendering, and putting final animations on flash drives (for take-home), and will present their work during class. Students will walk away with a number of sequences to share with friends. Here is a link to a really well done example: https://vimeo.com/94679344
