Daytime Wheel – Session 4

A beginner class with a series of skill-building practices will introduce you to the joys of working with clay on the wheel. The basic skills of wheel-thrown pottery will be introduced through step-by-step instruction in clay preparation, throwing on the wheel, trimming, handles and the firing process. Students will learn how to throw a cylinder, cup, bowl, and plate.

All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center lobby 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work.

If you have not received an email from us after 2 weeks, please check the lobby (sometimes emails go to spam or the email used to sign up is invalid).
If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled.
 
*Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece.
 

Adult Painting Concepts – Session 4

Back to basics. Explore clouds and skies learning about light vs shadow coloring. Discover new color palettes by practicing smaller paintings. We will explore details such as trees, rocks, clouds etc which will help with overall landscape paintings. 

Adult Painting Concepts – Session 3: Utah’s landscapes

Using the oil paint medium we will focus on capturing the unique beauty of Utah- from the mountains to the deserts. Learning to transition brush strokes and paint application to depict different textures, from rock, to foliage, to the softness of clouds, students will be creating inspired landscape paintings. We will be working from our own photo reference.

Adult Painting Concepts – Session 2: Intro to Portraiture

Using the oil paint medium, we will explore techniques in capturing the essence of our subject, the human face. Students will learn about proportion, under-paintings, mixing skin tones, depicting reflectivity in eyes, and transitioning values from highlights to shadow. We will analyze masterpieces in portraiture and discover the secrets of what make these works of art so compelling and timeless

Adult Painting Concepts – Session 1: Conscious Color Palette

Using the oil paint medium we will explore compelling color relationships such as complementary, analogous, and triad color schemes. The class will introduce masterpieces of various artists’ to better understand the language of color and inspire our own artistic expression. Students will be able to consciously choose their color schemes, becoming more adept in intentional color mixing.

Spring Break Camp Day 3

Explore pottery, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and much more in this full-day camp. Lunch is not included.
