Abstract Painting Weekend Workshop

March 29, 2019 by

This two-day workshop shatters the status quo by favoring rollers over brushes, tables instead of easels, canvas manipulation, color bending, texture making, translucent layering, and much more. Over the weekend students will also participate in supportive group discussions aimed at building confidence, silencing the inner critic, tuning into intuition, painting without fear, and exploring your own artistic style.

Portrait Painting

March 29, 2019 by

Learn painting techniques used by the masters to create portraits in oil or acrylic. Students will learn about painting materials, techniques such as mixing flesh tones, light, and proportions to create a likeness. This class is for beginners and advanced students. The course is open to everyone and a materials list for students to purchase will be provided.

Plein Air Weekend Workshop

March 29, 2019 by

Do you want to learn and perfect your plein air painting skills using soft pastels? Then dust
off your pastels and join us in a workshop to create a landscape painting working en plein air!
This two day workshop will give the student an opportunity to learn and practice using soft
pastels in the field, developing a landscape painting by doing an underpainting of pastels with
alcohol and finishing the work with soft pastels. This class will focus on composition, light and
pastel technique with demo, notes and narrative with Bonnie. Class size is limited to insure
personal easel time and assistance.

Designed for those with a basic knowledge of pastel painting and desire to further their skills, this weekend workshop will review composition, color theory, and use of the medium, as well as teach new techniques to create a stronger painting in plein air.

Open Studio Evening

January 30, 2019 by

An event designed to satisfy “curiARTsity” and explore the creative process. Participants will be able to sign up for two classes. The first class is chosen upon arrival, and sign ups for the second class will be available after the first class. Registration for both classes are first come, first served. While we want people to be able to take the class of their choice, we also want to expose them to types of art making they might not have considered. It’s similar to being devoted to a literary genre, but one day getting a strong recommendation to read a book in a completely different category and loving it. Sometimes we don’t know what we’ll enjoy until we try it. Demonstrations from teachers, all art materials, hors d’oeuvres, and personalized instruction are all included. A cash bar is also available. Doors open at 6:00 PM for class sign up. Class options include:

Expressive Figure Drawing – Working from a clothed model (a professional dancer) learn how to capture the energy, movement and the proportions of the human form.

Encaustic Painting – Create a small abstract panel with layers of melted wax and colorful ink.

Glass Fusion – Cut glass and assemble a colorful design. Artwork will be fired and students can adhere artwork to a nightlight upon pickup.

Clay – Cut out a slab of clay to the perfect sushi plate size, then learn decorative brush techniques for a one of a kind piece.

Clay Jewelry – Make and paint your own unique clay pendants for a necklace, bracelet, or a set of earrings.
