This annual exhibition invites K-12 students from Summit and Wasatch counties to create work surrounding a common theme. This year, the theme is “Storytelling”. In an incredible presentation of the creativity of our community’s young artists, more than 500 students participate each year.

Wasatch Back Student Art Show: Art and the Environment
The annual Wasatch Back Student Art Show (WBSAS) was created to showcase the artwork of aspiring young artists, grades K-12, living in Wasatch and Summit Counties. This year’s exhibition will feature artwork that incorporates the theme “Art and the Environment.″
With a sense of reverence and inquiry, artists have reflected on man’s relationship with the natural world for thousands of years. From Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty to the work of local painter Mark Crenshaw — artists continue to explore this connection in uniquely meaningful and varied ways. It is in this spirit the theme for this year’s Wasatch Back Student Art Show was selected.
Art and the Environment garnered over 900 entries from students in Summit and Wasatch counties, presenting a wide range of creative responses — some thought-provoking, some uncomfortable, and others full of hope and heart.
The Wasatch Back Student Art Show exhibition reminds us the creative process is a powerful outlet for expression, an instigator for change, and an opportunity to reflect on our connectedness. Kimball Art Center is proud to showcase the next generation’s environmental ethos and provide these young artists a professional setting in which to showcase their work.
Join us for the public Community Reception on Friday, April 27 from 5pm – 7pm.
