Morning Beginner Wheel Throwing Fall Session 1

This six-week course introduces students to the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel, covering essential techniques, trimming, and glazing applications. Designed for beginners, this class ensures a tailored learning experience to meet their specific needs. A series of skill-building practices will introduce you to the joys of working with clay on the wheel. The basic skills of wheel-thrown pottery will be taught through step-by-step instruction in clay preparation, throwing on the wheel, trimming, handles, and the firing process. Students will learn how to throw a cylinder, cup, and bowls. We emphasize this class structure to provide beginner students with focused instruction, making the most of the invaluable learning opportunities offered by our qualified instructors. This is a space dedicated to beginners, if you’ve taken this course more than three times, we ask that you enroll in one of our more intermediate or advanced classes. 

Note on firing: All work will be fired and ready for pick up in the Kimball Art Center 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled. *Since artwork may look different after firing, make your pottery or sculpture recognizable by carving a signature into your piece. 

The $50 material fee includes a bag of clay, with options including Rods Bod, Death Valley, and Stoney White. Porcelain is not included. Students wishing to use porcelain can get their material fee refunded and purchase porcelain separately at the front desk.

Morning Intermediate Wheel Throwing Fall Session 1

Our Intermediate Wheel Throwing class is designed for students with a foundational understanding of wheel-throwing who are ready to advance their skills. This weekly course delves into more complex techniques, refining throwing methods, and exploring decorative elements. Students will enhance their proficiency through various projects. Each session combines demonstrations, hands-on practice, and personalized feedback from our experienced instructor, fostering a supportive and creative learning environment to help students elevate their pottery skills. This class is not intended for beginner potters. Please check our calendar to find a more appropriate course.

Painting and Drawing Club Fall Session 1

Designed for young artists in grades 6–9, this eight-week after-school club combines skill-building with a creative community. Students will explore a variety of 2D mediums including watercolor, charcoal, mixed media, art and advocacy projects, and more while strengthening their drawing and painting skills.

Students will connect with other young artists, develop their own artistic voice and style, and begin building a portfolio of work. Whether your child wants to deepen their love of art, find a community of creative peers, or prepare for future opportunities such as Kimball Art Center’s Young Artists Academy and other advanced programs, this club offers a supportive space to grow.

Youth Clay Handbuilding & Wheel Throwing Fall Session 3

Get ready to get your hands dirty in Youth Clay! In this hands-on 4-week clay class, young artists will learn the basics of clay handbuilding and wheel throwing. They’ll discover how to shape clay, create bowls, cups, and other fun pieces, all while exploring their creativity and learning new skills. Perfect for kids who love getting crafty but don’t get to use kiln-fired clay at home!  Kids Ages 8+ only.
