Tool Making for Pottery Workshop (2 Day)

    February 23, 2023 by

Enjoy two days of tool-making for your pottery studio kit. For this workshop, we will get creative off the wheel  – nothing is off limits as a potential clay tool and no clay tool has just one use. Each student will leave with new tools for their trade, tools which they made by their own hand. Tools created will include a personal trimming bat, tools for shaping and creating consistency from piece to piece and more. Previous introductory wheel throwing experience is advised for students to gain the most from this workshop.  All work will be fired and ready for pick up 7-14 days after your class. We do not ship class work. If artwork is not picked up after 60 days it will be recycled.

    Figure Drawing Workshop

    February 16, 2023 by

In this figure drawing workshop, we will practice various techniques for constructing the human form. There will be an emphasis on Gesture, Shape, Mass, Value, and Proportion. We will utilize short poses to introduce the various techniques. Some longer poses will be held for guided practice. Students should expect to leave the workshop with an introduction to a variety of techniques they can practice and synthesize into their own work.

    Layout of Day:

    Morning session: 10 am – 1 pm

    Lunch: 1 pm – 2 pm

    Afternoon session: 2 pm – 5 pm

Each person attending the workshop should arrive with the following supplies:
    Substrates and Supports
    • Smooth newsprint drawing pad size 18 x 24
    • Drawing board with clips (large enough to hold the drawing pad)
    Drawing Materials
    • Vine or Willow charcoal sticks (soft preferred, medium okay)
    • Charcoal Pencils: Soft, Medium, Hard (one of each is enough for the session)
    • Crayola colored pencil set 12 or 24 pack
    • Blending Stump
    • Kneaded eraser
    Sharpening
    • Metal hand sharpener
    • Hobby knife with new blade
    • Sandpaper stick or A sheet or two of fine to medium grit sandpaper (sharpening)

Senses, Play and Memory – An Installation Art Workshop

    February 14, 2023 by

In Stefan Lesueur’s project Sky Lights (included in the current exhibition), the sky is presented as a motif that is both universal and personal. Everyone recognizes the sky, but seeing the sky in a particular state (like a sunset) or knowing that it is over a certain place brings about specific memories and stories. In his workshop, Stefan invites participants to partake in playful tasks that help us observe and understand how each of the five senses function physically, and how they influence our perception and memory. Through these exercises, participants will learn how to use sensorial cues to create a certain mood, translate a story or place, or even reinvigorate an unused space.
