This informal workshop will have an open studio feeling where we will discuss questions, challenges, issues and ideas you have about photography. Topics can include landscapes, people, town scenes, sports and more. We’ll also discuss and practice precedents in the history of photography in search of inspiration and various points-of-view. Any type of digital camera (point & shoot or SLR) is required. Advanced beginners and up are welcome. During the field session, students have one-on-one time with the instructor. Students return to the Kimball to review work and discuss next steps. Class includes easy to moderate hikes, so make sure to bring your camera, a charged battery, water, snack and comfortable shoes! No cell phone cameras, please.
Magic Hour Lighting: Photography Techniques
The Focus of this workshop will be to master natural light and use it to your advantage in your photographs to create an image you are proud of! The workshop will begin with in classroom instruction with new tools and techniques that you can use when we go out in the field to shoot. As this is a multi-day class, we will debrief in the beginning of each class where we will review and critique together the work done the evening before. We will then head out into the field to shoot during Magic hour through Sunset. Understanding and using ambient light is the most important tool to create amazing landscapes. The class will be held in the evening in order for students to practice their new skills in the best possible light.
Rebekah believes in a “learn by doing” approach as the best way to grow as a photographer. In the field, Rebekah will answer questions and solve problems as they arise while you are shooting. She will take you to some of her favorite spots for beautiful evening landscapes in and around the Park City area. Please bring a tripod and filters if you have them.
Mosaics 101 & 201 Workshop
Learn all you have ever wanted to know about mosaics. This class is meant for both beginners and experienced students. All materials and tools are provided to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece made of glass you have nipped yourself. We learn how to design, choose color, form the lines and shape the end in a fantastic piece of art. Beginners work on a project that will be on a shape of your choosing (shrine, heart, crown is my favorite). By the end of class you will be confident in all the skills needed to create art in this medium. Returning students will work on their own custom personal project, and are welcome to personally consult Katherine with their ideas and design (email us for Katherine’s contact details). A wonderful class for both beginners and experts to explore the mosaic medium!
