FEARLESS ABSTRACT PAINTING WORKSHOP Play, experiment, have fun! Explore spontaneous creation with emphasis on “no rules!”. Join professional artist Samantha da Silva as she shares her unorthodox method of painting: Rollers rather than brushes, tables instead of easels, lots of paint and water, canvas manipulation and plaster, salt, sand and wood shavings to create ethereal, textured abstracts. Heart-centered discussions will be offered to assist you to let go of fear, silence the inner critic, turn up your intuition and explore your own artistic style in a safe, supportive environment including: 5 Things To Make Painting Easier, Compassionate Critiques, How to tell your painting is finished, and so much more! Everyone is considered a beginner. No previous artistic experience necessary, just an open mind and an open heart.
Painting
Adult Painting Session 2
Explore contemporary animals and landscapes of the west through drawing, painting and mixed media using your choice of paint, graphite, charcoal, pastel, acrylic. Experiment with different approaches such as realism, expressionism and abstraction. Emphasis is placed on observation, structure, line quality, volume, composition, technique, experimentation, and originality.
Students enrolled in weekly painting classes may use open studio on Sundays 10am-1pm to continue painting pieces. This is for summer only.
Material List:
- Paints: Ultramarine Blue, manganese Blue, Lemon yellow, Indian Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, cadmium red, raw sienna, burnt umber, white, black
- Odorless turpentine, rags/paper towels, container/cups for turpentine
- A variety of oil and acrylic brushes
- Either gessoed canvas or panel
- Sketch Paper
- Backing support for canvas sheets if you choose to use canvas sheets rather than stretched canvas.
Adult Painting Session 1
Painting the beautiful rugged mountain peaks of Utah. Exploring the Alpine lakes, streams, wildflowers, and snow capped peaks.

Murals
A unique opportunity for teens to learn how to paint a large scale mural, connect with other teens, and get involved in the community. Students will collaborate, learn new techniques, create a design and paint a mural . The first 2 days will focus on planning, learning from artists and practicing skills necessary for implementation. The mural will be painted on a large movable panel over the last 3 days and displayed on Main St. during the Park City Kimball Arts Festival.

This is HUGE! Students will be introduced to large-scale methods to create drawings, paintings and sculptures that can’t fit in a sketchbook
