Students will enjoy the summer weather while learning to draw what they see outside. Students will go outside to find a view they would like to draw, and using a drawing board, paper, pencils, and colored pencils kids will draw a light sketch. Kylie will lead students in how to develop a drawing by slowly adding details and color. Throughout the week, students will use different materials including oil pastel, chalk pastel, and watercolors to create artwork au plein air!
Tuesday
Design, Carve & Print for Kids
In this class, students will learn about different types of printmaking such as, relief using foam and linoleum, using found objects (leaves, apples, string, etc.), and monoprinting. First, students will look around and find objects that they can use to make interesting relief style designs. Kids will also learn relief techniques using foam blocks and printmaking tools. Carving techniques will be taught using linoleum blocks, and finally, monoprinting will also be explored using small pieces of plexiglass, water soluble oil paint, and brushes. Students will have an entire edition of prints by the end of class!
Mixed Media Sculpture for Kids
Using a variety of different mediums, kids will explore the basics of 3D art. Creativity abounds as sculptures big and small are formed from the students’ imagination. Kids will work with clay, paper mache, wire, sculpey polymer clay, and cardboard in making individual and collaborative sculptures.
Upcycle Art: Newspaper Creations
Kids explore the endless options of art making using one simple material: newspaper! Kids will make intricate butterfly sculptures, flowers with bursting colorful petals, and sparkly fish throughout the week using upcycled materials. Keep it simple and get creative!
Star Wars Terrariums
Students will create their favorite Star Wars characters, then create a miniature environment for them to become a mini terrarium. First, students will make Star Wars characters out of felt, yarn, popsicle sticks, air-dry clay, or other various supplies. They will then decide what kind of environment their characters should be in. Students will search outside for found objects, such as dirt, sand, rocks, sticks, etc., then place their characters inside. Kids will walk away with an awesome terrarium for display. Students will also be making Star Wars themed paintings and drawings to pair with their terrarium. May the creative force be with you!
Paper Mache Animal Heads for Kids
This enticing project will surely be a good time. Students will shape a head with balled up newspaper. Once it’s formed the paper mache fun begins! Covering every inch of the sculpture in the gooey goodness that firmly hardens provides a great painting texture. Acrylic paints will be used when the animal has been sculpted to bring the creature to life!
