Introduction to Drawing & Painting

December 2, 2016 by

Drawing is key to a good painting. Jeanne LaRae will walk you through the basic steps of creating a good drawing using strong values and shapes as well as knowing when and how to use soft and hard lines. This group of classes will start with black and white and then move into learning about color mixing and color temperatures. This is a class that will help you learn the skills to move forward into other drawing and painting classes with more confidence and abilities to paint either on your own or along with an instructor. We will start the first 2 sessions in drawing things in black and white and then paint the same subject in color the last 2 weeks.

Glass Fusion I

December 2, 2016 by

Learn the basics of glass fusion while creating one of a kind glass projects in class. We will explore the use of tools used to shape and form glass. Properties and types of glass will be discussed, as well basic design concepts, resulting in the completion of several finished projects. Class will cover the use of reactive glasses, the use of frit, rod, and dichroic to create patterns in glass and the use of inclusions in glass such as silver foil. Cold working techniques will be demonstrated to put a finishing touch on the fused glass piece. This class is for beginners and intermediate students continuing their practice in glass fusion. Due to slumping and firing times, glass pieces will be ready for pick up 12-14 days after class has ended.

Choose Your Own Medium: Pastel & Watercolor

December 2, 2016 by

These sessions will teach the basics of each medium. Intermediate students are welcome to participate as Jeanne will work at the individual pace of each student. Jeanne will teach you how to use the correct tools and the correct methods to achieve an awesome painting. On the first day of class, please bring one piece of Masonite or a thick wood panel to tape down the paper. Jeanne LaRae/Kimball Art Center will supply the pastels and the watercolor. This will allow you to explore these new mediums without a huge investment. This is a class that will help you learn the skills to move forward into other drawing and painting classes with more confidence and abilities to paint either on your own or along with an instructor. This class will be split into two sessions – 3 classes focusing on pastel, and 3 classes focusing on watercolor. You are welcome to continue in one medium if you choose.

Stop-Motion Animation for Teens/Tweens

December 2, 2016 by

Students will learn about original stop-motion animation, and view examples of stop-motion throughout history up to modern applications. Students will learn basic techniques of animation, and will create their own animated characters out of modeling clay. We will come up with a basic concept, build a small-scale set, and begin animating frame-by-frame using digital cameras. On the last day of class, Kylie will help students compile their photographs digitally to make a short stop-motion animated film!

Cool Cats, Dream Dogs!

December 2, 2016 by

Are you a cat person, or a dog person? This class will surely find out! Students will use a variety of techniques and mediums to create a collection of cat and dog art, in honor of their favorite feline friends and puppy pals. Each student chooses to focus on either cats or dogs to inspire their art! Kids will make a sculpture of a cat or dog that doubles as a bowl to keep small treasures using clay. We will also make paper mache masks, and carve stamps of your favorite pets. Have fun celebrating your favorite pets through art!
