In Studio Printmaking
Participants will work in Jeff Juhlin’s Salt Lake City Studio where he has a professional printmaking press which will be used to produce Monotypes often known as Monoprints . Monotypes are one of a kind prints commonly described as “Painterly Prints” because the printmaking process is less technical and more fluid than traditional etching, Intaglio and lithography processes. Ink or paint is applied directly to a plate and run through a printmaking press to transfer the image onto paper. Many unique and exciting effects are produced through this process. Participants will work with non-toxic water soluble soy based inks applied to Polycarbonate plates. Techniques covered include mixing ink, additive and subtractive methods, viscosity printing, The use of stencils including hand cut Mylar stencils, multiple plate printing, plate and paper registration methods and other techniques are used to create vibrant exciting one of a kind prints. Monotype prints can be stand alone works of art or used as collage materials in painting with encaustic, oil, acrylic and other mediums. We will be discussing how to produce monotypes in your own studio without having to have access to a printmaking press including the use of Barons, pin rollers and other alternatives. No experience necessary.
