Explore Park City as you learn the technique of pocket sketching with Kath Macaulay. This quick-draw technique allows anyone to “journal” wherever they are using only a 4 x 6 art pad, a pen, a small paint set, a brush and a film canister of water. Perfect for hiking, sitting in a café or standing in line — take it anywhere, whip it out in a minute, and preserve a memory in 25 minutes or less. With a pocket sketch it’s more about capturing the “feel” of a place rather than simply taking a camera image. This workshop is ideal for timid beginners who want to fearlessly paint in public, for experienced artists who want minimal equipment with no clean-up, and for anyone wanting a truly intimate record of what you think you see. Kath Macaulay has shown at Robert N. Blair, Buffalo, NY (in the Metropolitan, Corcoran and Whitney Galleries), Bong Wai Chen, Portland, OR (known as the Asiatic World’s top painter of the butterfly), Nicholas Brigante, and Los Angeles (collected extensively by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art). She has taught at Canyon Ranch, Tucson; Sedona Arts Center, Sedona, AZ; Sun Valley Art Center, ID; Mt. Vernon, WA; Jackson Hole, WY; Evergreen, CO; Dillman’s Lac du Flambeau, WI.

Welding Workshop I
If you have ever seen sparks flying and wondered what those folks were doing, this class will answer your questions and give you the metalworking itch, guaranteed! Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of metalworking and metal sculpture design. We will be using MIG welders, Oxygen/Acetylene torches, Plasma Cutters, Grinders, Shapers, Cut-off tools, and anything we can find laying around to bend, shape or mold our ideas into art. This class is also open for teens ages 14+.
Wake & Draw the Figure II
Unwind from the work week and enjoy your Saturday morning in the studio. This class is back by popular demand! Grab an easel or a drawing horse, bring a pad of paper, your preferred drawing medium, and your creativity. A nude and/or draped model will be present to pose. Students will work with the model to communicate positions, quick draw exercises, or extended time draws, etc., which will allow students to continue their study of the figure. There is no instructor during this open studio session, so it is suggested that students who register have figure drawing experience. Wake & Draw is meant to be a creative meeting place for artistic people to share their techniques and skills in a community setting. Come by and try it! Space is limited to 10 students, so please register in advance to reserve your space.
