Celebrate the autumn season by making a beautiful wind chime out of clay to place on your porch, in a tree, or in a garden! Learn how to carve feathers and leaves out of clay to make an autumn themed project that kids and adults love. Wind chime pieces will be painted with glazes to fire in the kiln. Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 12-14 days after the class session is finished. For assembly, wood and string will be provided when you pick up the wind chimes.
Saturday
Watercolor Workshop
During this workshop, students will start out the day with studies as Heather leads the group to play and explore a variety of wonderful watercolor techniques (wet on wet, dry brush, masking, washes, color layering, and mixing). In the afternoon, Heather will guide everyone through a more focused study (from a still life or a photograph). Students may bring their own photographs if they would like. Materials needed: Cheap watercolor paper for experiments, a nicer sheet of watercolor paper for a final study, basic watercolor set (cakes or tubes), a variety of brushes, a large palette, and a water cup. If you have extra materials that you’re interested in bringing, feel free!
August Landscapes: Plein Air Painting Workshop
Celebrate the summer days outside! Jeanne LaRae will take you painting Plein Air. Students will meet at the local parks, the McPolin barn, or other picturesque locations throughout beautiful Park City. Jeanne prefers to paint with oils outside, but if there is an interest, she will demonstrate in different mediums. Your medium can be your choice between pastels, oils, watercolor, and acrylics. Snacks water, hats, and sunscreen are encouraged! Enjoy the summer days by painting outside. One day registration is available!
Drawing and Painting Utah Landscapes
What are the elements that make up a good landscape painting, and how do we go about it? With these questions in mind, both the beginner as well as the experienced student will explore the art of landscape painting through discussion, hands on indoor and outdoor work, and the study of light and shadow. Various methods and materials will be discussed as we work from life and reference material. Students will begin with drawing, and later move into painting. We will work outside in the Park City area, looking for subjects that spark our interest. All levels of ability are welcome in this class.
Silver Clay Workshop
In this one day workshop, students will create jewelry components from PMC + Silver Clay. Class will take a long lunch break at noon so that Carol can fire the pieces in the PMC kiln at KAC. Students will have time for lunch or shopping Park City’s famous main street shops, or in the surrounding Bonanza Park area. Everyone will reconvene at 3:00 p.m. and work for two hours to finish the fired clay pieces and create at least one piece of jewelry, say a pendant, charms for a bracelet, or earrings.
Welding Workshop III
If you have ever seen sparks flying and wondered what those folks were doing, this class will answer your questions and give you the metalworking itch, guaranteed! Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of metalworking and metal sculpture design. We will be using MIG welders, Oxygen/Acetylene torches, Plasma Cutters, Grinders, Shapers, Cut-off tools, and anything we can find laying around to bend, shape or mold our ideas into art. This class is also open for teens ages 14+.
