Snow White, Harry Potter, The Little Engine that Could. These stories take center stage in this class, as children use clay to create figurines of their favorite characters.
Sculpture
Wild Clay Kingdom
Things are sure to get a little wild in this class! Kids will learn about the animals around the world, their environments and habits. After each lesson, they’ll make clay sculptures of both the animals and their habitats. It’s a wild clay kingdom!
Animal Mobiles
Learn how to make fantastical animal mobiles in this class. Students will use the technique of paper sculpting to create their own decorative animal mobile. Students will begin by learning how to construct their animal sculptures. They will paint them and make a whole collection. Students will also paint their sticks, and create a complete hanging mobile by the end of the class.
Fantastic Wall Hangings for Kids
Students will build wall hangings using sculptamold to make wall decorations of make-believe creatures – a jackalope or a unicorn. Kids will work on developing and perfecting their creation each class, and will finish the wall hanging with a wall hook wire frame to hang on their wall when complete!
Arctic Animal Sculptures
Have fun in the Kimball Clay Studio with family and make arctic inspired ceramic sculptures! Polar bears, penguins, narwhals – you name it, we can help you make it. Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 12-14 days after the class session is finished.
Sculptural Welding for Anyone
Whether you have taken sculptural welding before or this is your first time, you are sure to have fun and love metal sculpture by the end of this class. Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of metalworking and metal sculpture design. We will be using MIG welders, Oxygen/Acetylene torches, Plasma Cutters, Grinders, Shapers, Cut-off tools, and anything we can find laying around to bend, shape or mold our ideas into art. We encourage students to think about projects they may want to build and to keep an eye open for found metal pieces to use in their sculptures before class begins. This is a fun course for beginners and intermediate metalworkers. The first night of class will review safety and proper use of equipment. For the other 5 classes, students will work with the instructor based on their knowledge of welding to develop their projects (returning students can dive into other projects, while beginning students will work on simple projects to start). If you have ever seen sparks flying and wondered what those folks were doing, this class will answer your questions and give you the metalworking itch, guaranteed! *Any additional metal that students wish to purchase for special projects can be purchased separately by the student.
