Star Wars Terrariums

December 2, 2017 by

Students will create their favorite Star Wars characters, then create a mini terrarium for them to call home. First, students will make Star Wars characters out of felt, yarn, popsicle sticks, air-dry clay or other various supplies. They will then decide what kind of environment their characters should be in. Students will search outside for found objects, such as dirt, sand, rocks, sticks, etc., then place their characters inside. Kids will walk away with an awesome terrarium for display. Students will also be making Star Wars themed paintings and drawings to pair with their terrarium. May the creative force be with you!

Making Harry Potter Trinkets

December 2, 2017 by

Students will learn about the origins of the mythical creatures featured in the Harry Potter Saga. They will be making owl sculptures, Harry Potter glasses, a wand, a snitch and more! The last day of class, students will create their own imaginary mythical creature using the processes learned.

Winter Break Art Camp

December 2, 2017 by

Come have fun in the studio with Cameron in this 3-day art camp! Kids will start in the Kimball Clay Studio on Wednesday making all sorts of ceramic creations. Then, students will doodle, sketch, paint, layer, glue and have fun as they create unique pieces of art on Friday. Kids will take a break mid-day to eat lunch and relax. After lunch, students return to the studio for creative free time and a PG rated movie. We will provide popcorn for the movie – please notify
staff if your child has any allergies! Spaces fill fast – register in advance to reserve your space! Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 12-14 days after the class.

Students will learn valuable drawing techniques that will build their confidence in drawing!

Pottery Pals for Tots

November 29, 2017 by

Get creative with clay! Students will experiment with texture and shapes as they learn basic clay building skills. Tots will be introduced to coils, pinch pots and slabs as they handbuild fun figures from their imagination. Each class will focus on a different technique, and students will have the opportunity to paint and glaze their mini masterpieces! After the art projects are finished for the day, students will go outside to play games as a reward for their hard work creating! Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready for pick up 12- 14 days after the class session has ended. Parents do not need to accompany children in this class.

Flow: The Workshop

October 31, 2017 by

David Habben’s abstract ink drawings come to life as he watches dancers move around him, his rapid yet deliberate brush strokes capturing the energy and power of what he witnesses. In this exciting workshop, participants will be directly involved in the process of creating work as part of David’s new exhibition Flow, on view at the Kimball Art Center December 16, 2017 – January 7, 2018.

Workshop attendees will join David in creating a new drawing over 25 feet long as dancers from the Duhaime Movement Project inspire the group with expertly choreographed modern dance. Each attendee will create their own work to take home using the technique that David will demonstrate, while the large group mural created in collaboration with the artist will be displayed for the duration of the Flow exhibition. This will be an amazing experience for all involved and most certainly a night to remember.
