Painting through the seasons: Fall and Winter Watercolor Workshop

Autumn leaves are falling and Jack Frost will soon be nipping at our toes.   It’s time to bring the beauty of the outdoors into the studio and paint a few seasonally inspired pieces.  We will paint an autumn inspired scene as well snowy winter painting.  References will be provided and students will follow the instructor’s demos. 

We will break for lunch (one hour).  Please bring your own lunch.

Sketch, Paint and Go: How to Complete a Travel Sketchbook

This course will focus on developing skills and techniques that will help you have a more successful experience sketching outdoors or while traveling.  This class will include some discussion about design, layout, materials and general tips as well as drawing and sketching exercises. We will experiment with a variety of materials including pencil, pen, ink, and watercolor paints.  

We will break for lunch (one hour).  Please bring your own lunch.

Watercolor Reboot Workshop

Join us as we dust off our paints and reacquaint ourselves with watercolors.  This course is designed to help you gain more confidence with this medium.  We will work through some warm-up exercises in the morning, then will dive into painting a few paintings.  By the end of the day, you will have some new skills that should jumpstart your painting journey! 

We will break for lunch (one hour).  Please bring your own lunch.

Glaze Mastery Workshop

Bring your completed bisque ware and immerse yourself in an inspiring workshop guided by Tom Caswell. Explore the intricacies of glazes, understanding their mechanisms and versatile applications. In this session, you’ll have hands-on experience mixing glazes and practicing diverse application techniques, including dipping, brushing, pouring, and spraying. Tom will showcase how slips can artistically enhance ceramic pieces, encouraging creative exploration and empowering students to craft truly unique pottery pieces.

This opportunity is tailored for our weekly students aiming to gain a deeper insight into achieving exquisite finishes for their creations. 

Please note that the firing process takes 7-14 days, and your finished pieces will be available for pick-up only; shipping is not offered for class creations. Remember to collect your masterpiece within 60 days to avoid recycling.

Plates and Platters on the Wheel Workshop

Learn how to throw plates and large platters on the wheel with Tom Caswell. Plates serve as a versatile canvas, allowing potters to unleash their creativity through imaginative designs and decorations.  Tricks will be shared to prevent the most common errors such as “S” cracks and warping.  

This class is best suited for ceramic artists who are comfortable on the wheel and want to take their skills to the next level.  Plan on returning the following Saturday, during our open studio time, to finish your pieces (trimming or glazing).

Artwork will be fired by our dedicated clay studio staff.

Exploring Portraiture: A 2-Day Painting Workshop

This immersive workshop focuses on the foundational step of achieving a likeness by building the specific light and shadow planes of a person’s face.   From dissecting the human skull to mastering color dynamics, this program is meticulously designed to elevate your skills to new heights. Key learning outcomes are: Mastery of underpainting techniques for a robust foundation,  Proficiency in building likeness through specific abstract facial patterns of light and shadows, Skillful use of temperature and color to enhance realism, Understanding the intricacies of facial anatomy and features, Enhanced compositional skills for impactful portraits.
